Chicago january 11, 2006
Dear Friends of Haiti,
Ladies and Gentlemen ,
On behalf of my compatriots in Chicago and indeed on behalf of Haitians everywhere, I thank Mrs. Maria Pappas, the Cook county Treasurer for her kind invitation. It is a very special day for us Haitians because our independence is being remembered and celebrated. I am deeply thankful to each and every one of you for showing us your solidarity on this occasion.
On the first day of January 2006, Haiti became a two hundred and two years old
nation. The road has never been easy. It is far from easy now. My country must
constantly redefine its freedom and relentlessly protect it.
Today I will not speak about the hard times that we have survived as a nation.
I will tell you however that we have managed to keep our ability to smile and
to appreciate such fine folks as you.
Ladies and Gentlemen, before I close, let me tell you once again how immensely
honored I am to be here on behalf of all my haitian brothers and sisters. I
have always been a proud son of Haiti. Today, you have given me one more reason
to be hopeful.
I thank you !
Lesly Conde
Consul General
